Former Upsilon
alumnus Gilbert Medina was ordained as a priest of the Roman Catholic church on
June 16, 2007. Mr. Medina was tapped in the Fall of 1992 and was honored
as a "Highman" for his tap. Gil served as Upsilon's chaplain for two
semesters from Fall of 1993 to Spring of 1994. Gil graduated from Lee in
the summer of 1996 and served the Church of God in Russia. Gil entered
seminary and strongly considered serving God as a Friar in the Franciscan Order,
spending several years in a Monastery in Bethlehem. Yet, feeling called to
return to the United States and serve God closer to his family, Gil returned to
the Orlando area and finished his education in Florida. The ceremony of
ordination took place in the Cathedral of Saint James in Downtown Orlando and
was performed by the Most Reverend Thomas G. Weski, the Bishop of Orlando.
Mr. Medina becomes the first Upsilon man, ordained as a Catholic Priest.
